Smoothskin Bare IPL review
Have you ever thought about using IPL, and dreamed about being hair-free? And, do you hate shaving? If any of these are true for you, like they are for me, then I may have a device that you really, really need to check out.

Back in July, Smoothskin very kindly offered to send me a Smoothskin Bare* to try out for myself, and review. An IPL device is something that I have wanted to try for a long time so I am very excited to be sharing my thoughts with you today.

So, what is IPL?
IPL is a treatment that is designed to destroy and help break the cycle of hair growth, by using small electric light pulses. The light energy from the electric light pulses is converted to heat energy below the surface of the skin, with the aim of disabling the hair growth. The hairs will then naturally fall out over the course of a few days to 1-2 weeks.

Your hairs grow at 3 different stages so the treatment is unlikely to stop hair growth entirely after just one treatment. It takes time to catch all the hairs where you apply the treatment, at the right time.

The review
As I mentioned above an IPL device is something that I have wanted to try for a long time, whether I tried it at home or at the salon. I absolutely despise shaving so the idea of not having to do this after a period of time sounds amazing. The device I was gifted is the Smoothskin Bare, one of two devices that Smoothskin currently sell. It is said that the treatment the Smoothskin Bare offers can be applied in just 10 minutes, which also sounded amazing.

I personally find the device takes me around 15 minutes to do my legs, underarms and my bikini line, so slightly longer, but I really can't believe how quick it is. The device is light and incredibly easy to manoeuvre around the body, something that's very important to me. I don't want to faff around too much, I just want it to work with ease.

The IPL device can be used in one of two ways, either by simply pressing the button and gliding the product over the surface you don't want the hair, or by pressing, letting go, and lifting to the next area. Both work easy enough, but as you can imagine gliding is a little quicker so is great for larger areas like your legs.

When you first use the device you will likely find the sensation a little weird, the only way I can describe it is like a light burn, a quick dispersion of sudden heat. It doesn't hurt in the slightest, but it is definitely an odd feeling.

I have been using the device for around 6 weeks now, once a week and I have definitely noticed a difference. My hairs have started growing back lighter and patchy, a great sign that my hairs are starting to stop growing. With time and possibly more frequent use, I can definitely see my hairs stopping growing completely, providing I keep up with the treatment regime.

The other thing I have noticed is that my legs are less bumpy after shaving and with regrowth, a definite positive. If you ever suffer from shaving rashes I think the Smoothskin Bare may help with this too.

The Smoothskin Bare costs £179 and it is definitely something I think is so worth investing in. If you were to go to the salon for a similar kind of treatment, after a few treatments this could easily cost a £1,000, so despite the large cost, I think it is very well priced.

The device also has an unlimited amount of laser flashes so you don't need to replace part of it after a certain amount of flashes either, something that you do have to do with some similar devices. If you can't guess I absolutely love this product and I can't thank Smoothskin enough for giving me a chance to try it.

Have you tried an IPL device before, or considered purchasing one?
