Scones and tea at the Oak Barn Coffee Lounge, Budleigh Salterton, Devon
Back in August Luke and I headed to Exmouth in Devon to see some of Luke’s family, and being in Devon, I had to go for some Devonshire scones. Last year Luke’s Gran took us to the most amazing place for scones, the Oak Barn Coffee Lounge in Budleigh Salterton, so I had requested that we go back there for a visit during our stay and thought I would do a little blog post about it, as it really is a gem of a place that everyone needs to know about.
When you walk in you actually walk directly into the furniture shop (Oak Barn Funishings), which is full of unique pieces of furniture everywhere. It has such a homely feel with the ambient lighting. This feel continues through to the Coffee Lounge to the right which creates the most relaxed atmosphere. The venue is quirky and full of soo many unique features, I could have easily shared over 50 photos but I tried to restrict myself.
The quirky feel actually continues to outside, where there are seating areas for you to enjoy your coffee or lunch in the sun. Many of the benches are carved from the root of the teak tree which really adds to the scenery and feel; these benches are available for purchase. This was where we sat as it was a gorgeous sunny day when we visited.
The Oak Barn Coffee Lounge has many home-made scones to choose from, alongside cakes, flapjacks, and light lunch picks. Me being me, I of course opted for the scones and tea option, and as we don’t live anywhere near Devon I even got two scones. Luke had a caramel latte.
The scones are the best I have ever tasted which was why I wanted to go back there so much. They are super fluffy and light, and an absolute delight. Our tea and caramel latte was lovely too. We didn’t opt for a cake this time, but I have had a brownie previously which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I am so glad we got to go back there and if you’re ever about in Devon I definitely recommend taking a look at the Oak Barn Coffee Lounge as it is amazing. Scones, tea and coffee shops are one of my favourite things and this is one of the best places I’ve ever been to for scones.
