2017 has been a year of so many things, including one of the happiest moments of my life yet, so as it is nearing towards the end of the year I thought I would share some of my favourite happy things this year. I tried to keep it short, but I warn you now this has ended up being such a super long post that I’ve split the year into two, but anyway let’s get started with the first half of the year.
I started a new job in Marketing
Since graduating from university in 2013 with a degree in Journalism I have wanted to get a job in marketing ever since, but I found it super difficult. There aren’t super loads of marketing jobs around in Southampton, and a lot required years of experience, something I didn’t have and as I’ve worked full time since and had a flat to pay for I couldn’t afford to either, but through much perseverance I finally got a job offer last December and started in January 2017 which was a fantastic start to the year.
Luke and I celebrated our three year anniversary
In February Luke and I celebrate our three year anniversary by going for a full body massage at The Ocean Rooms and just spending the day together before finishing the celebration off in the evening with a meal at Cau, which was absolutely incredible. You’ve probably heard me talk about Luke on my blog every now and then but he really does mean the world to me, so spending time celebrating this was just wonderful.
I’ve actually had this blog since 2014, but after I started my old job in October 2015 I literally had no time so I kind of stopped blogging bar the odd post incredibly sporadically. I missed it so much so it was nice to finally have the time to start blogging again, and also start taking it much more seriously. I kind of think of the last year as when my blog really started as it has changed so much over the last year that it might as well be a new blog. I think of it as a blog soon to be 1 years old blog, even though it is technically going to be 4 next year, and 2 years as The Violet Blonde.
Afternoon tea with the girls
Quite a few things happened in March starting with going for afternoon tea with the girls from my old job. I may not have really liked my old job but I did meet a great bunch of girls who I love catching up with, so going for afternoon tea was an absolute delight.
I was also very lucky and was treated to a holiday to Prague from Luke for my birthday in March so we headed over there for a few days and had the most wonderful time. We found an incredible pizza restaurant and walked so many 1,000’s of steps but saw the most awesome views so it was totally worth it. Prague was beautiful and was the start of a year of holidays.
I brought my Olympus Pen E-PL7
I also finally purchased a proper camera in March after debating for so long and I can 200% say it was the best decision I ever made. This camera is incredible and has allowed me to completely up my photography game, I’m just desperate for the 45mm lens now.
I’ve always wanted to go to a masquerade ball and this was an incredibly fun event through work. I had just had two teeth out so I couldn’t exactly eat the food but I still had an unbelievable time.
I hit 500 followers on Bloglovin
Hitting 500 followers may be such a small number but to me this was an incredible achievement, when I started blogging again in February I was at around 300 so this meant that in just two months I had gained an incredible 200 followers, and as far as I’m concerned Bloglovin is such a hard platform to grow so I couldn’t believe it. It made me so happy, and it’s so lovely to see that people enjoy reading my content enough that they want to follow my little blog.
A random happy moment, but this was the first time I went to Franco Manca with Luke. The pizzas are cooked in a pizza oven and just taste divine, so it was lovely to go on a date there. We’ve since been there quite a few times as we love it so much.
Winchester catching up with friends
To start off the month one of my best friends from school who lives in Ireland surprised us by coming over to the UK for a few days, and came to meet us in Winchester. As she lives in Ireland, despite speaking all the time we hadn’t actually seen her in 5 years so it was amazing to catch up in person for the day.
May was an incredibly busy month for me work-wise so popping to Bournemouth with Luke for a beach day was super lovely. Bournemouth has to be my all-time favourite place to visit the beach, as I just love the super soft non-stoney sand. We had an ice cream too of course, and it felt like the start of Summer.
One of the work events I was running was in Bournemouth too so we actually ended up going there twice. As Luke was off work the next day we both headed down the evening before to the hotel I was staying at and spent the evening enjoying the rooftop terrace pool.
Maybe not an event, but since giving in to making my first ever Colourpop haul I have been so impressed with this brand. They are definitely my favourite brand discovery this year, with products that are not only great value but fantastic products too.
First blogging event outside of Southampton
I had been to blogging events before with the lovely Sotonbloggers, but I had never been to an event outside of Southampton so this was much scarier knowing absolutely no-one, but back in June I headed to the #BloggersBall. I met up with an amazing group of girls and had such a lovely time, I’m so glad I decided to brave it and just go for it.
Lots of sun with friends
I’m much more of a Summer girl than an Autumn or Winters girl as I love the longer days and the warmer temperatures. In June I made the most of the sun we had and spent lots of time in the sun with Luke and friends, whether it was chilling in the park, going on an adventure, or just chilling on our terrace.
