I don’t know about you but when I was younger, my makeup and beauty routine was less than great. In comparison to now, I was absolutely terrible with keeping a skincare routine and had a limited makeup collection. I routinely brought the same products and didn’t branch out that often. Since then, I would like to think that my beauty skills have improved drastically (luckily) as my interest in beauty products has grown. With that in mind, I thought I would share a few beauty tips I would tell my 15-year-old self if I could.
DON’T OVERPLUCK YOUR EYEBROWS
Oh god, it took me so long to realise that eyebrows actually need a bit of caring for if you want a slightly less unruly look, it’s slightly embarrassing, but when I did start, overplucking was a problem.
Your eyebrows have always been hard to arch, or so you’ll always be told in the future when you get them waxed, but overplucking is not the one. It will not help you and will just leave you with a skinny line which still doesn’t have much shape to it! Take it slowly, or go and get them waxed or threaded by a professional.
DON’T FORGET TO USE AN ACTUAL EYEBROW PRODUCT TOO
Another eyebrow related one, but whenever I look back at photos, I can never understand how I didn’t realise how bad my eyebrows looked, and how I didn’t notice that a bit of product was definitely needed.
Even if it’s just a brush through, Benefit Gimme Brow style product, please do something to attempt to define your eyebrows. You will feel so much better about it when you look back, when it’s the one product you can’t go without.
BRIGHT EYESHADOWS THAT CLASH IS NOT THE ONE
I’m not sure I can even explain this, but I had a Sleek eyeshadow palette full of bright colours and my favourite look was to pair a bright purple and teal green shade together. I covered one half of the eyelid with one shade, and the other half with another shade.
Bright, clashing eyeshadows is not the one, wherever you got this crazy idea from, please don’t do it. Something more natural, or just anything that doesn’t clash, will honestly be much better! Try something like the Urban Decay Naked Basics eyeshadow palette or the Too Faced Natural Matte eyeshadow palette.
DON’T USE HAIRSPRAY TO SET YOUR MAKEUP
Are you one of those people who used to use hairspray to set your makeup too?
This is crazy, think about it before you spray, this is for your hair, how can you even be thinking about applying this to your face? It can’t be good for it, go and find a setting spray, or pop a soothing toner in a spray bottle and please use this instead!
ALWAYS REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP BEFORE BED
I was always the worse at making sure I removed my makeup before bed every single night, and often used face wipes too.
This isn’t good for your skin, and getting into this routine now will get you ready for when you get a little older and more into makeup. It ensures there is no dirt or traces of makeup left on your face and stops you clogging up your pores, which is soo much better for your skin! Your skin will really thank you.
KEEP UP A GOOD SKINCARE ROUTINE
Leading on from my last point, establishing a good skincare routine just isn’t something that I got into when I was a teenager. I was very sporadic, having a slight routine to then not bothering before going back to a routine. I never stuck with a good skincare routine.
Getting into a skincare routine now will not only help with the last point, but it is really good for your skin. Using products created and designed to be used on your face is the one, and can only help with any skincare concerns you may have at this point!
What beauty tips would you tell your 15-year-old self? Do any of these apply to yourself?
