Newborn baby essentials
During my pregnancy every time I googled the phrase ‘newborn baby essentials’ the
Florence will be turning 4 months tomorrow so I thought it was about time I shared a post on the things we’ve found essential in the newborn period from 0-3 months.

ALDI MAMIA SNUGGLE NEST
A lot of people swear by sleepyheads for their babies but this isn’t something we personally picked up, but the first product I have to mention is Aldi’s version – the Aldi Mamia Snuggle Nest. We picked up the Snuggle Nest in an Aldi baby event last year and it has been so, so handy from the day she was born.
We have never used it at night but we do use it for daytime naps if we’re at home. I love how easy it is to pop her in to nap whilst being in the same room as us. Florence doesn’t nap anywhere near as much as most babies but when she was tiny she did, and this really was essential. As she has grown, it’s incredibly handy to pop her in and take her around the house with us. I’ve taken her into the bathroom with me a number of times whilst I’m doing my
CHANGING CLUTCH*
A changing clutch is something I had never heard of before I actually came across one but is another product I don’t know how I would have lived without. If you don’t know what a changing clutch is, it’s essentially a changing mat but with a multitude of pockets attached for your wipes, nappies, hand sanitizer and nappy bags etc. It means you don’t need to take your whole changing bag every time you go to change your baby, and I honestly think as long as we have this on us we could cope without the changing bag quite easily.

OYSTER 2 TRAVEL SYSTEM
A newborn baby essential that I researched extensively into was prams. I must have easily read about 20+ travel systems and tested out just as many
It’s supposedly light, which it is compared to some but if you’ve tried lifting a travel system before then you’ll know there’s no such as thing as light when it comes to them. It’s smaller than some, easy to manoeuvre, reasonably priced and has 3 stages from carrycot to the seat parent-facing and finally to the seat outward-facing. You can also attach a car seat with the correct adaptors.
I may write a full review on it at some point but I absolutely love this travel

PERCY THE PENGUIN
Before we had a baby I didn’t think we’d need a white noise toy, but it soon became apparent how handy they could be for our newborn so we picked up a Percy the Penguin on Black Friday. Florence absolutely loves it and it has now become part of our routine. I love that there are 4 different choices of sounds (even if we only use the white noise choice), different volumes, and a little light.
It does have a cry sensor, but Florence isn’t always the quietest so ours is generally on 24/7 and we’ve gotten very used to sleeping to the sound of white noise. My only advice is to pick up rechargeable batteries as you may go through a fair amount of batteries otherwise.

ZIP UP BABY SLEEPING BAG
A central zip zip-up sleeping bag may sound like a daft thing to include on a newborn baby essentials list but this is something I never considered when I was pregnant. We picked up your regular sleeping bags, and as much as they do work a zip-up one is just so much easier and so much less faff with a newborn. If you’re doing a nappy change in the night it’s so quick and easy to get baby in and out, and just so much easier in general.

PLAYMAT
A lot of people seem to swear by bouncers when babies are tiny but Florence wasn’t the biggest fan of hers, and instead much preferred her playmat. We picked up one for half price in a Mothercare sale which is quite bright so not the most attractive but Florence loves it. The different coloured toys have caught her attention from very early on keeping her amused.
As she’s been getting bigger I love the fact that I can change the toys hanging from it to other toys we have to stop her getting bored. It’s also great to have somewhere to pop her for 10-15 minutes every now and then.

NATUREBOND SILICONE BREAST PUMP
Florence is exclusively breastfed but from the get-go it was always important to me that she also could and would take a bottle so the Naturebond Silicone Breast Pump was something I started using around the 3 week mark and it has been amazing. I love that you simply pop the pump on the opposite boob to the one you’re feeding on and it catches any milk. It’s so easy and enabled me to easily start building up a milk stash to use with bottles.
Since my supply has established I don’t tend to catch any if I pop it on throughout the day so I do now use a manual/electric pump too, but I still use it for any night feeds and first thing in the morning. I used to be able to collect roughly 6-10oz a day, but this is closer to 1 1/2 – 3oz now. It’s a product I really didn’t think would work but I am so, soo glad we picked it up.

MAM ANTI-COLIC BOTTLES
Leading on from the silicone breast pump the Mam Anti-colic bottles have been amazing. When we first introduced a Mam bottle to Florence we did have to
I love that they can be sterilised in the microwave, and from the ridiculous amount of research I did when pregnant, before buying, I know the teat is meant to be great for breastfed babies due to the shape of the teat and how soft it is. They are the only bottles we have tried but that doesn’t mean I don’t love them any less.
If you’ve got a baby what things have you found to be your newborn baby essentials?
