If you follow me on social media, then you may have heard my frustrations at having trouble sleeping lately, in fact for the last 6 or 7 months now. I seem to be able to get to sleep, but then I wake up throughout the night which is incredibly frustrating. Lately, I’ve been trying to implement a proper evening routine to see if this helps, which it has slightly, so today I thought I would share with you my evening routine.
I typically start my evening routine by using the Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water. I apply a little bit of this to my cotton circles and use it to remove any eye makeup and my mascara before I go on to cleansing properly. I love that the formula of this is oil infused as I not only find out much more effective, but it is also super soft and gentle on my skin.
Once I have done this I then go on to my proper cleanse using the L’Oreal Fine Flowers Milk Cleanser. I apply this onto my hands and then massage into my face and over my eyes to ensure every last trace of makeup is removed. I really love the formula of this, it’s a milk texture that feels very nourishing on my skin, leaving it feeling moisturised and clean.
Now my face is cleaned I go onto a product you’ve heard me talk about plenty of times, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid. I apply a pipette of this onto my face and massage it in, giving my skin a little bit of extra moisture.
Following this, I then like to apply an eye cream before going in with my choice of moisturiser. My favourite eye cream at the moment is the Botanics Radiant Youth Eye cream,* an eye cream that sinks in quickly and leaves my eyes looking slightly brighter.
The final step of the skincare part of my evening routine is to use a moisturiser. This does vary at the moment but my favourite is definitely the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask. This is an incredibly moisturising cream, that when used leaves me with glowy, replenished skin.
As this is a mask, however much I am tempted, I try not to use this every single night. My alternative choice is currently the Botanics Hydrating Day Cream*. This is a day cream, but it’s such a thick formula that I much prefer using it in the evening.
Once I’ve finished the beauty side of my evening routine I like to settle down with a book or a magazine, something away from the screen to try and let my brain know that it’s time to go to sleep. I sometimes forget and don’t make time for this step but this is something I really want to be a part of my evening routine every day. The book I’m about to start is Sarah Knight’s The Life-changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K.
How long I do this for will depend on the length of the chapter I’m on or what I’m reading but it is usually 15 minutes to half an hour. I will then spray my pillow with the Ren & Now to Sleep Pillow Spray, a product I really didn’t expect to make a difference but it really does seem to be helping. I love that I can’t really smell the lavender too as this is something I often react to.
It has a soothing scent that instantly relaxes me. After this has dried, I then pop on an eye mask to keep out any light in an attempt to keep me asleep, and to complete my evening routine.
